Episode 15: What is a Neck Finish?

This episode of Coffee with Kaufman covers the anatomy of a bottle and explains what the terminology "neck finish" represents.

A neck finish refers to the section below the opening of a container. When selecting a closure for a container, there are several measurements needed to ensure a secure and sealed fit.

"T" Dimension: The outside diameter of the thread

"E" Dimension: The outside diameter of the neck

"I" Dimension: The inner diameter of the neck

"H" Dimension: The height of the neck

"S" Dimension: Measured from the top of the finish to the top edge of the first thread

To determine the Neck Finish, take the T Dimension Thread Style.

Popular "T' dimensions include: 20mm, 24mm, 28mm and 38mm.

Popular Thread Styles: 400 (1 turn), 410 (1.5 turns), 415 (2 turns)

Example Neck Finish: 24 mm T Dimension 410 Thread Style = 24/410
