For 30+ years, the popular salad dressing has been in an iconic 375 ml claret Champagne Green glass bottle. With very little notice, the glass supplier discontinued the bottle, and the distributor needed to provide a new solution very quickly. At first, LarMar Foods was adamant about staying in glass and wanted to keep its Champagne Green color. However, as we worked through potential glass alternatives, we suggested taking a deeper look at a PET bottle for a more flexible supply chain all while maintaining the sustainability of glass with a 100% recyclable PET bottle. This change would further enhance the sustainability by being lighter weight, reducing breakage, and decreasing freight costs; a big win all the way around. After seeing the benefits, the customer agreed to transition to a custom 375ml PET Plastic bottle that mirrored the original glass. Within ten weeks, we revised multiple drawings, color-matched them, and held the first production run. The color match was so impressive that it was almost impossible to tell the difference between the glass and plastic bottle.
Moving to PET has positively impacted their business in many ways. In this past year, the customer sold more bottles than any other year in their 30-year history!
